After a difficult battle with brain cancer, Lorraine Elwood passed away peacefully on
February 12, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.
Lorraine was born in Brooklyn, NY on December 17, 1941 to Howard and Elaine
Johnson. She attended Norwalk School of Nursing, beginning a lifetime of caring for
others. In 1964, Lorraine married Lt. John Elwood, and began her career in nursing in
the state of Connecticut.
A fiercely independent mother, Lorraine raised three equally independent daughters,
Kimberly, Katherine and Barbara. Lorraine not only dedicated her life to her family, but
also to the many animals that came into her care. This love of wildlife and nature was
passed down to her beloved grandchildren.
Lorraine’s family will be honoring her in a private ceremony. In lieu of flowers, the
family requests that donations be sent to Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in
Lorraine’s name, to help them continue to care for the tiny baby animals that Lorraine
loved so much.
