Robert Deickler Obituary

Robert Barry Deickler passed away peacefully holding his daughter Beverly’s hand on
December 26th. Predeceased by his wife Judy nine days prior, his last thoughts were of joining
her in the next life.
Known to family and friends as Barry or RB, he was born March 12, 1932. He was predeceased
by his parents, Charles and Almira Deickler, step-mother Jeanne, sister Sandra, and daughter
Kathy. On July 25, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart Judith J. Russell, his wife of 69
years.
The proud father of Katherine (Stephen Dyer), Deborah Leigh (Victor Cassarino), Beverly
(Colin Harley) and William (Christine Monet) Deickler, grandfather of Michael Bower,
Kimberly Euler, James and David Cassarino, Kaitlin and Andrew Harley, Amanda Cucinotti and
Stephanie Brand, and great-grandfather of Owen Brand and Leo Euler, he was known for his
great sense of humor and was friendly to one and all. He enjoyed hunting, gardening, and most
of all, his devoted wife and loving family.
Raised in Chappaqua, NY, he graduated from Horace Greeley High School in 1950, and
Gettysburg College with a BA in Business Administration in 1954. He retired from the US Air
Force Reserves as a Captain.
Barry was a third-generation self-employed building contractor, and a Real Estate Broker in the
Northern Westchester area for many years, having had offices in Bedford Hills, Bedford Village,
Katonah, and Mount Kisco. In later years he specialized in commercial real estate investment,
particularly 1031 tax-deferred exchanges. He also served as Secretary-Treasurer of Westchester
County Board of REALTORS®, and President of each of MAREEN (Metro Areas Real Estate
Exchange Network), WCBR Commercial Investment Division, NYSAR Commercial Investment
Division, Lower Hudson Region, and was active in regional NY state commercial associations
and legislative issues.
Residing in Bedford Hills from 1959 to 1994, RB served as President of the Young Republicans
Club of Bedford in the 1960s; as President of the Bedford Hills Lion’s Club; and on the vestry,
as Warden, and as Sunday School Superintendent at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Katonah.
He was also active in Little League as a coach; on a Cub Scouts Committee; and on the former
Westchester County Grand Jurors Association.
When Barry and Judy moved to Pawling NY, they continued to be active in their community. He
was on the vestry at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, actively supporting and leading various
projects. Barry became a brother of the Masonic Jerusalem Lodge #49 in Ridgefield, CT. He also
served as Chaplain for the American Legion Post 1949 in Wingdale, NY.
A joint memorial service for Barry & Judy will be held on Saturday, December 30, at noon at the
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 22 Coulter Ave, Pawling, NY 12564.
